The Kwahu Asabi family in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District has united towards building a developed community.
Addressing the Amankwakrom Community on Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Kwahu Asabi Chief, Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI indicated that, it will only take a united front to help develop our communities.
According to Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, his biggest challenge, after he took over after 20 years of idleness, is how to unite the people.
“My biggest challenge has been the remoteness of Kwahu Asabi and the fact that the original town was swept away in 1964 after the dam was constructed. Due to that, the populace has been scattered far and wide and it becomes difficult to have access to all of them” he stated.
He further explained that, the absence of a substantive chief for over 20 years has made it difficult to rally the people together.
“The absence of a chief for the past 20 years has affected us, to the extent that, there are differences among the sub-chiefs and elders. For the past 4 years, I have been working on bringing everybody onboard and I can say this unity has been our biggest achievement” he added.
The Kwahu Asabi people originated from Bukuruwa, led by Nana Kwao Baadu to the Afram Plains in 1691. They were unfortunately scattered across the country after the construction of the Akosombo Dam.
Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI is calling on all citizens of Kwahu Asabi (Amankwakrom) to endeavor to come back home and assist in the development of the community.
The Chief further indicated that, they are putting measures in place to launch a Home Coming Event later in the year, with the aim of bringing home sons and daughters of the land to plan towards developmental projects.
