The Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation, under the auspices of Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, has partnered with some Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and state institutions to help curb teenage pregnancy and period poverty in Amankwakrom and the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
The initiative, dubbed The Interprofessional Collaboration for Community Development Project, was held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
The project saw volunteers from the California State University – Stanislaus, Savannah State University and University of Ghana – Legon, coming together to educate and provide support for school going girls in the District.
The Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation is geared towards working on three thematic areas; Agric, Health and Education, in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District and this year’s edition happens to be the second one.
According to Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, the Kwahu Asabi Royal Family has been in the Kwahu Afram Plains since 1691 and it is their responsibility to see to the development of the entire Afram Plains.
He further indicated that, the Foundation has been able to support farmer groups, Women groups, students, youth groups among others, all within the Afram Plains.
The foundation is targeting doing another set of donations on May 28, 2024 in the Kwahu Afram Plains to help fight period poverty, reduce teenage pregnancy and educate students on Menstrual and personal hygiene to increase school enrollment and fight period poverty.
He further called on all stakeholders to come on board to support them in their quest to improve the living standard for the people, considering the poverty rate and remote nature of the area.
He however acknowledge the partnership of the California State University, Savannah State University and University of Ghana, for coming onboard to help draw programs that are geared towards empowering the people.
