The Kwahu Asabi Chief of Amankwakrom, Nana Otukwa Mpareko VI, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, hosted a durbar to donate essential items and share valuable life experiences with the youth of Amankwakrom.
The event which falls under the “interprofessional collaboration for community development project” an initiative of the Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation is aimed to empower the youth and equip them with the necessary tools for a brighter future.
Recognizing the importance of addressing the sexual health and well-being of the youth, the Chief together with his partners donated over 500 pieces of sanitary pads and 7000 lubricated condoms.
This generous act will make a significant impact on the lives of the young people, promoting healthy habits and responsible decision-making among them.
The event also saw Mr. Samuel Duncan, Manager of Zenith Bank’s Kumasi Branch, sharing his inspiring life story with the youth. He emphasized five key takeaways:
1. The essence of having a vision: Mr. Duncan stressed the importance of setting goals and working towards achieving them.
2. The essence of having values and sticking to them: He encouraged the youth to develop strong moral principles and adhere to them.
3. The essence of committing to one thing that brings development: Mr. Duncan advised the youth to focus on activities that promote personal growth.
4. Seeking for mentors: He highlighted the value of finding guidance from experienced individuals.
5. Volunteerism: Mr. Duncan encouraged the youth to engage in selfless acts, contributing to the betterment of their community.
A team from the Central Leadership Program (CLP) also graced the occasion, providing education on Sexual Reproductive Health. This informative and educative session equipped the youth with vital knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships.
A team from the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC) was also invited to speak to the people on the possible causes of the constant breakdown of the ferry and what the VLTC is doing about the challenges.
The team made mentioned of, among other things, the formation of a Rapid Response Team, Initiating Procurement Process for the purchase of new parts and seeking for a Korean-Exim Bank Project to be able to procure new ferries.
The durbar was a resounding success, with the youth of Amankwakrom benefiting from the generosity and wisdom of their chief and guest speakers. As they move forward, they will carry with them the valuable lessons learned, poised to make a positive impact in their community and beyond.
