The Career Guidance and Mentorship Foundation (CGMF), a Non Governmental Organization, based in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, has successfully conducted Free Surgery for individuals with some underlining health conditions within the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South Districts.
The exercise, which was conducted from December 19 to 22, 2022 at the premise of the Presbyterian Hospital – Donkorkrom, saw a total of 96 cases attended to. This comprises of 47 Males and 49 Females.
Among the cases attended to were Elective herniorrhaphy, Elective para-umbilical hernia, Total abdominal
hysterectomy, Myomectomy among others.
The Free Health Screening and Surgery was organized in partnership with Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams (Public Health Consultant), Eastern Regional Hospital (Koforidua) and the Presbyterian Hospital (Donkorkrom) with support from Applied Geotechnical Drilling.
The NGO, as part of it’s health projects, also organized a Blood Donation Exercise, to support the Blood Bank of the Presbyterian Hospital, Donkorkrom. This exercise, saw Health Screening and Blood Donation from a total 44 individuals.
ABOUT CAREER GUIDANCE AND MENTORSHIP FOUNDATION (CGMF)
The Afram Plains Career Guidance and Mentorship Foundation is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of young people and supporting community development initiatives in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Our mission is to nurture local talent, particularly young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and assist them in navigating their career paths to assume responsible positions within the district.
Our interventions include fee payment, seminars, and quizzes held quarterly in various Junior and Senior High Schools across the district. These activities focus on essential topics such as hygiene practices, sanitation improvement, malaria prevention, handwashing, and HIV prevention. We have also enrolled 32 students in tertiary education, providing them with 50% of their termly school fees to help them achieve their dreams.
Our foundation is funded by Applied Geotechnical Drilling, based in Australia, whose founder is a native of the Afram Plains North District. We operate on an annual budget of approximately 30,000 United States Dollars.
Additionally, we raise funds through a community volunteer approach and other participatory systems to meet our project goals and targets.
