The Parliamentary Candidate for the Kwahu Afram Plains North on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that, the people of Somsei should expect electricity before the end of the year.
Speaking to aframplainsstories on Monday, December 1, 2020, the former Member of Parliament, who is currently the Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC made it known that, it saddens his heart that Somsei has still not gotten electricity as at now.
“When you look at Afram Plains as a whole, you will realised that, NDC has been the only political party to bring development to the area. We have done a lot and more are yet to come” he stated.
The Youth of Somsei had earlier sent notice to all political parties in the constitution to forget about their vote if the community is not provided with a transformer.
According to the youth, they have been taken for fool for a while now and it is time to speak up for themselves.
“When Joseph Appiah was serving as MP between 2014 to 2016, he promised to get us electricity. We had hope in him and did all we can as youths to support so that the electricity can get to us. After he left in 2016, we have not seen any improvement” they lamented.
BACKGROUND
Somsei is a farming community in the Afram Plains South District. It shares boundary with Koranteng and Samanhyia. The community, with a population of a little over 1000 has no electricity.
In 2016, the youth were tasked to dig and erect electric poles from Somsei to Samanhyia (8km). The youth did all they could with the hope of getting electricity to the community.
As it stands now, the community has been neglected after the transformer intended to be used in powering electricity at Somsei has been given to the people of Koranteng.
The Youth has since then expressed their displeasure on the issue and vow not to vote in the forth coming General Elections.
DEVELOPMENT
Joseph Appiah has made it known that, he will do all it takes to make sure the community gets their share of electricity even before 2020 comes to an end.
JAB1 as he is affectionately called is resolute that, the promise won’t be a political talk but one that will surely see the day light.
He urged the community to vote massively for the NDC in the December 7 election.
